Semantic Diff — Compare Meaning, Not Just Text

Traditional diff identifies literal text changes. DiffFind adds optional semantic analysis to help explain whether those changes affect meaning. Semantic analysis complements deterministic comparison.

How it works

01

Compare two versions.

Paste the before and after text to establish the exact differences.

02

Add semantic analysis.

Use optional AI analysis to explore the meaning and impact of the changes.

03

Review the source evidence.

Read the explanation alongside the original text and deterministic diff.

Illustrative examples of the feature.

Different wording, essentially the same meaning

BEFORE

The service retries the request three times before failing.

AFTER

Before returning an error, the service makes three retry attempts.

The wording changed substantially, but both versions describe three retries before failure.

One character, a significant behavior change

BEFORE

Requests timeout after 30 seconds.

AFTER

Requests timeout after 3 seconds.

Removing the “0” changes the timeout from 30 seconds to 3 seconds: one character changes how long a request may wait.

Why Semantic Diff is useful

Deterministic comparison establishes what changed. Semantic analysis explains what it means.

This helps you distinguish rewrites from changes to behavior, obligations, or requirements. Review AI explanations against the source when a detail matters.

Start with Text Compare for precise lexical changes, or compare documents with PDF Comparison and Excel Comparison.

Looking for an idea within one document? Use Semantic Search to find passages by meaning.
